The Saudi Electricity Company has awarded two large scale power projects to alfanar construction totaling more than SR 1.9 billion; the Reinforcement of Hail 2 Power Plant – Expansion III and Construction of High Speed Harmain Railway Substations, are one of the few lumpsum contracts awarded to a single EPC company by SEC. The projects were signed by the Chairman of Board, Saudi Electricity Company Dr. Saleh Al Awaji, and Eng. Sabah Al Mutlaq, Vice Chaiman, alfanar.
The Reinforcement of Hail 2 Power Plant- Extension III project is aimed to increase the generation capacity of electric power and to meet the future load demand and to support the existing generation capability of Hail area. The project will enhance the generation capacity of the existing power plant by an additional 280 MW in open cycle that will enable for future conversion of the plant into combined cycle. The project will be on a fast track basis as the first two units will be online in August 2012. Due to its proven experience in delivering projects with a challenging time schedule, alfanar construction – Power & Water was awarded the project.
The Construction of High Speed Harmain Railway Substations project will supply power to the upcoming double-track high speed Harmain railway and will include the construction of Six (6) new 380kV Sub Stations. The project will be an extremely fast track project as all the Six(6) sub stations shall be completed and put into service in 24 Months.
The company enjoys proven track record in executing high quality projects delivered in a very short time span. It had recently commissioned the reinforcement works at the Sharourah Power Plant and expected to commission the Hail II Extension III power plant before summer of this year. alfanar construction has signed a new Power Generation Reinforcement Project for the Hail-II Power Plant with Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) for turnkey supply and installation of a 160 MW Simple Cycle Plant. This is a brown field Project that will initially install 2 x 80 MW GTG simple cycle base loaded gas turbines on treat crude fuel oil operation.
This new project will increase the capacity of electric power and meet the growing demand for electricity and the future needs of the consumers in the Hail region. The project will enhance the generation capacity of the existing power plant by an additional 160 MW.
The contract value of the project is SR 458 million (USD 122million). The project will be a fast track as the first unit will be in service before the summer of 2011.

Hail & Al Jouf areas to get reliable and secure power supply!
alfanar construction and Saudi Electricity Company signed a contract for the construction of the new Al-Jouf 380kV Substation and the expansion of the existing 380kV Hail Substation.
This project forms part of SEC’s plan to increase the reliability and security of supply to Ar’ar and Al-Jouf network. The project is aimed at increasing the capacity of electricity to meet the growing demand and also the future needs in the Hail region. The project will link the regions of Al-Jouf on the northern border to the main network of the rest of the Kingdom, thus increasing the reliability of service in these areas. The project will be completed in 25 months and is valued at SR 396 million ($105 million).
Four new 132kV substations to power the King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD), Riyadh!
alfanar construction and Rayadah Investment Company together with the Public Pensions Agency (PPA), who are the developers of the King Abdullah Financial District, have entered into a SR 249 million contract for the construction of four new 132kV substations as well as the 132kV interconnecting cables.
When completed, the substations will feed the power supply to the entire project, occupying over 1.6 million square meters of developed floor space. The KAFD will house the headquarters for the Capital Market Authority (CMA) and the Stock Exchange (Tadawul) and Financial Institutions. Other related service providers such as accountants, auditors, lawyers, analysts, Rating Agencies and IT providers will also be based within the KAFD.
Sharourah Power Plant in service!
The extension works at the Sharourah Power Plant completed. Commenced in 2008, the first unit has been operated in October 2009 however the third unit in January 2010. The power plant works had been one of the challenging projects undertaken by alfanar construction.
alfanar construction Company has been awarded a strategic contract for the Execution of 380 kV and 132 kV underground cabling works between several substations for a value of SR 180.4 million by the Saudi Electricity Company.
This project comes as part of the Princess Nora Bint Abdul Rahman University (PNAU) project in Al-Najres area, North of Riyadh. The design, engineering, procurement, installation, testing and commissioning will be provided by alfanar construction for the 60kms 380kV cable and 30 kms 132kV cable between several substations in the area. The technical completion period of the project is 20 months.

alfanar construction company, a member of alfanar Group, has been awarded a strategic contract for the construction of Hiteen 380/132kV Substation for a value of SR 500 million ($133.3 million).
This project comes as part of the Saudi Electricity Company’s plan to further enhance the power supply capacity to meet the growing demand for electricity in Riyadh, particularly the North West region of the city, where the project will deliver electricity to the new facilities located in that area. This station will be linked to several existing substations and the 380 kV overhead transmission lines in Riyadh. The project technical completion period is 24 months.

alfanar construction, an integral part of alfanar Group, signs a new 380kV substation contract worth SR 444 million for Makkah West substation with Saudi Electricity Company (SEC).
This project will enhance the capacity to meet the growing demand for electricity in Makkah, especially the Holy Al Harram area where the project will distribute electricity to the new facilities located in the area.
As part of an interconnection plan, the proposed substation will also be linked to several other substations, including the Aziziah South substation and the Shoaibah substation, and the 380 kV overhead transmission lines in Makka. The scheduled time for the implementation of this project is in 29 months.
